Not only is the Ford 8N my favorite tractor, this one is a 401ci 400+ hp monster supposedly capable of going from 0-100 in the span of a city block ( source ). As a bonus I know this person (not well, but I do), and have seen this tractor personally. He owns one of the largest junkyards in the midwest, which I grew up 3 miles from, and now live about 9 miles from.
Edit: Why you no work pictures?

Kinja!
If this doesn’t show up, google Nordstroms Ford 8N. Also picture in your mind a JD 4040, JD 4020, IH Super MTA wide front, JD D, JD B, IH 300 Utility, various Case models.

1950 Allis Chalmers model CA. My favorite because I spent many years when I was little riding with my grandfather on the fender of one of these.

Minneapolis Moline made some really kickass tractors.

Is that bottom one an aircraft tug?
![]() 10/12/2016 at 17:05 |
|
Yes. It was the NTX, which was a modified UTX, which came from the UDLX (the car-bodied-looking tractor).
https://www.hemmings.com/magazine/hcc/2010/06/The-Industrial-Jeep—-1943-NTX/3396821.html
So, its mostly a fancy body on an equal-size wheel tractor.

Of course, weird MM offerings don’t stop there:

Have you ever ridden in a combine? It’s so much fun! :) Wish I was on my old computer so I could dig out some photos I took a few years back.

I haven’t. Despite living my whole life in Iowa, I grew up in the “city” (40,000 people, lol). I’d like to, though.

Around here, we’ve got lots of stuff that requires a combine. But I never would have ridden in one either if it hadn’t been for work.
Forgive these for being pictures of pictures. I don’t have the originals on me at the moment.
Top photo is sorghum. Bottom photo is a flock of grackles in a field of corn.

That bottom photo reminded me that when I detasselled one summer I did ride one of these a couple of times.

Minnesota’s Pioneer Power Days happen just down the road from my folk’s place. Such a cool event. Also, farmers are some of the most creative shade tree mechanics anywhere.

There’s an event like that near my neck of the woods. My son will be old enough to enjoy it next year so I’m planning on taking him.

What’s the gray tracked (steam?) one in the middle? THAT is adorable!

I think it’s a scaled down replica of a Hornsby steam tractor. The real ones were a lot larger.

I figured that either had to be a scaled down model of something or some sort of really unique special case garden tractor. I’m sure that thing has a top speed of maybe 3 or 4 mph, but I don’t care, it looks like so much fun! Come on tracked vehicle, steam powered & fits in the same space as a motorcycle? awesome all around
